(KLZA) The Falls City, City Council came out of executive session Tuesday night and approved making an offer to purchase the former medical clinic building located at 23rd and Barada Streets in Falls City. If the proposal is accepted by the Hospital Board which meets today, the building would be used for a new City Hall.
City Administrator Gary Jorn said the current City Hall poses issues to needed remodeling. ( play audio :27 seconds )
Jorn talked about which departments would be moved to a new City Hall. ( play audio :14 seconds )
The former medical clinic is more that 6,000 square feet. Jorn said the larger dispatch area would help accommodate a possible merger of dispatching duties between the City and the Richardson County Sheriff’s Department. ( play audio :18 seconds )
The Council authorized the Committee negotiating with the Hospital Board to pay $200,000 for the building. Jorn said it would also require more funds to renovate the building. ( play audio :06 seconds )
Preliminary figures to renovate the current building housing City Hall estimated the cost somewhere between 40 and 70-thousand dollars and included taking care of some issues that need to be done to the building.
Jorn said if an agreement can be reached, the City would look at using capital improvement funds or a loan from the Utility Department to pay for the building and renovations.
