Grants Awarded for Two Atchison County Bridges
09/05/2012

(KAIR) -- Two bridge projects in Atchison County will become a little easier to fund after grants were awarded for their construction.

Road and Bridge Supervisor Matt Dorssom made the announcement to County Commissioners Wednesday morning that a bridge on 244th and River Road and on 326th Road within the Atchison County Lake perimeter are recipients.

On the County Lake bridge, the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism will fund 40 percent, or 22 thousand 889 of the 57 thousand plus dollar bridge.

Dorssom says they will temporarily fund the bridge replacement using the Special Bridge fund so they can complete the project by the end of 2012.

For the River Road Bridge, Dorssom explains how they were entered for the K-DOT grant.

The 50 foot steel truss bridge built in 1952 was rated as poor in a recent inspection and was reported to K-DOT with erosion and alignment issues.

It’s currently unknown how much of the seven point five million dollars allocated will be given towards the project.
