(KLZA) Class D-2 top ranked Falls City Sacred Heart scored touchdowns on their first seven possessions, kicked a 25 yard field goal as time expired in the first half and then scored on the opening possession of the second half in rolling to a 65-6 win over Pawnee City Friday night in Pawnee City.
Senior quarterback Lane Scheitel threw touchdown passes of 35, 12 and 50 yards to Clay Finck in the first half as he hit all five of his pass attempts for 127 yards. Scheitel also ran for a pair of scores in the first half.
Lane Barnhill in his first action since a knee injury ended his season early in 2011 ran for 93 yards on 13 carries and scored on a pair of five yard runs and a 10 yard jaunt.
The Irish defense recovered three Pawnee City fumbles in the first half and blocked three Indian punt attempts, starting only a pair of first half drives on their own side of midfield.
Pawnee City scored on a 50 yard pass from quarterback Austin Smith to Devon Marteney in the second quarter. Another long TD run by Marteney was called back on a penalty.
Smith his 7 of 10 pass attempts for 91 yards and a score in the game.
Sacred Heart closed out the scoring on a Sawyer Kean 61 yard run that saw the sophomore make a Houdini-esque escape from Pawnee City tacklers when everyone in the stadium thought he was down.
The Irish travel to St. Joe to take on the St. Joe Christian Lions next week while Pawnee City will be on the road facing another ranked team in Bruning-Davenport-Shickley.
