(KAIR) -- An Atchison woman was given an 18-month prison term Friday in Atchison County District Court for burglary.
Raechelle Jones was convicted of breaking into a home on 1225 Mound Street with another individual in early July.
Jones had her attorney, Andrew Werring, read a letter to the court during sentencing that indicated that she allowed an addiction to get the best of her.
Special prosecutor in the case, Pat Henderson, challenged the credibility of the letter, questioning its sincerity after committing several “acts of dishonesty” in the past.
Jones could have been eligible for presumptive probation. However, District Judge Martin Asher sentenced her to prison since she committed the act while on felony bond in another case.
Post-release probation was set at 12 months.
The other individual, Ashley Dithmart, pled guilty in June and was given probation in the case.
