(KTNC) - The Falls City Council once again has a full complement of eight members, following the approval Monday night of Judy Murphy as Second Ward Council member.
Murphy replaces Ryan Rieschick on the council, after Rieschick moved out of Falls City. Murphy, who had previously served one term on the City Council, will serve out the remainder of Rieschick’s term.
Murphy is the third member to be appointed to fill a vacancy on the Falls City Council in the last two years.
In other business Monday night, the Falls City Council set the Airport Tax Authority Levy at 2-point-9482 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. That’s basically unchanged from last year’s levy of 2-point-9462 cents.
The council approved the one-percent allowable growth for the 2012-13 Budget.
Approval was given to a memorandum of understanding between the city and Falls City Recreation. The agreement calls for the city to loan Falls City Recreation $600,000 to cover the immediate costs of the ballpark renovation project. The loan will be paid back over four years at two-percent interest.
The council approved, on a 5-3 vote, an amendment to the ordinance governing hours that alcoholic liquor can be sold in Falls City on Sundays. The amended ordinance would allow liquor to be sold from 9:00 a.m. till midnight on Sundays. The current ordinance allows Sunday alcohol sales beginning at noon.
The council also approved two requests for special designated liquor licenses at Prichard Auditorium, on e for the Northwest Fight Club even on October 6th, and the other for a family reunion on September 1st.
The September 1st event is the 13th such license granted at Prichard Auditorium this year, exceeding the limit of 12. City Clerk Gary Jorn told the council the State Liquor Commission had granted Falls City a waiver until the end of the year to grant more Special Designated Liquor Licenses at Prichard Auditorium.
The council approved the Special Designated Liquor Licenses on 7-1 votes, with newly appointed Council member Judy Murphy voting against both.
