(KTNC) - The Presiding Commissioner of the Holt County Board of Supervisors has been tabbed to lead the Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments. Mark Sitherwood was elected as the agency’s chairman during the annual dinner and membership meeting last week in Maryville.
Sitherwood had previously served as the Regional Council’s secretary. He replaces Bob Steins as Chairman. Steins, who has been the chairman for the last five years, will move into the position as secretary of the Regional Council.
Rounding out the officer elections were Jack Baldwin of Hopkins, Missouri, as vice-chair and Doug Sutton, an at-large member as Treasurer.
Tye Parsons, the Executive Director of the Council, praised the selection of Sitherwood as chairman. Parsons says Sitherwood has a good handle on the challenges and opportunities in the region, having served as presiding commissioner of Holt County and being a northwest Missouri native.
In addition to electing new officers, the Regional Council highlighted some of its accomplishments over the last year during the meeting.
Parsons reported that they were instrumental in securing state and federal dollars to repair infrastructure damaged in last year’s flood. The Regional Council directly assisted 13 flood recovery projects in Holt and Atchison Counties, totaling over $12.7 million.
Other highlights included the completion of a statewide hazard mitigation plan for rural electric cooperatives, distribution of grant funds for recycling projects, and ranking regional transportation priorities.
The Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments is one of 19 regional commissions in the state of Missouri, with headquarters in Maryville. It serves Atchison, Holt, Gentry, Nodaway, and Worth Counties.
