(KTNC) - A series of meetings is planned next week to provide residents in northwest Missouri and southeast Nebraska with information about plans for a high-power transmission line project.
K-C-P-and-L and the Omaha Public Power District are combining efforts to build a 345 Kilovolt transmission line from Sibley, Missouri to Nebraska City. Officials say the goal of the project is to relieve congestion and improve the reliability of the nation’s energy grid. They say it will also provide an additional gateway for renewable energy to reach customers in Nebraska and Missouri.
Open house meetings are planned at eight locations next Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Monday’s meetings will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Grace Church in Rock Port, and from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Auburn School District Central Office Auditorium.
Tuesday meetings are scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Good News Assembly of God Church in Falls City and from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Mound City Middle School.
Meetings will be held Wednesday in Maryville and King City, Missouri, and Thursday in Cameron and Excelsior Springs, Missouri.
The meetings will allow residents to drop by at any time to learn about the project.
The transmission line project is in its early stages, and planners will spend the next year identifying and assessing possible routes through 16 counties in northwest Missouri and southeast Nebraska, with a route to be selected by next summer.
