(KTNC) - Pawnee City has gone to Stage Two water rationing. City Clerk Tammy Stephens says the Water Commissioner issued the notice earlier this week due to a malfunction at one of the city’s wells. (play audio :17)
Under the Stage Two rationing, Stephens explains there are limits as to when people can water their lawns, and other restrictions on water usage. (play audio :42)
The restrictions apply to all residences and businesses that have lawns, gardens, trees or shrubs, including parks and city-owned buildings. The restrictions do not apply to businesses that grow and sell plants. Private swimming pools that lose water due to evaporation or splashing can have water added to make up for the loss, though water lost through draining or leaks in the pool may not be made up during stage two water rationing.
Stephens says it was not immediately known what caused the well to malfunction, and city workers were working with workers from Layne Western Company today (Thursday) to try and fix the problem.
Pawnee City was under stage one – or voluntary – water rationing before the stage two rationing was announced. The stage one restrictions will stay in place after the well is fixed, though Stephens says the stage two restrictions could remain in effect if they don’t get more rain.
