( KNZA )--The Brown County State Fishing Lake has been placed under an advisory due to the threat of toxic blue green algae.
Word comes from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, which conducted tests of the lake waters this week.
That followed a recent report from a visitor to the lake, who after having contact with the water, developed a skin rash.
Due to the advisory now in place, KDHE recommends that people, pets and livestock avoid drinking the lake water. At the same time, pets should also be kept from eating algae.
Fish from the lake should be cleaned and rinsed with clean water, and only the fillet portion eaten.
