Cooper Nuclear Station near Brownville and the Nebraska Public Power District are looking for information on available rental properties. The information is being sought to accommodate workers who will be in the area during Cooper’s upcoming refueling outage.
Approximately 900 supplemental workers are expected to help with the refueling outage, and many will be seeking temporary housing.
Cooper Nuclear and NPPD are posting rental information for houses, apartments, hotels, and available guest rooms, on the Internet to inform workers of available housing.
Anyone with an available rental they’d like included on the list can submit their property information directly at http://nppd.wufoo.com/forms/cooper-nuclear-station/visitor-information.
Information can also be e-mailed to Drew Niehaus, the nuclear communications coordinator at Cooper, at apnieha@nppd.com.
Most of the supplemental personnel will arrive from August through October.
Cooper Nuclear’s refueling outage is scheduled this fall. During the outage, the plant will stop producing power so the used fuel can be removed and replaced with new fuel. Outages typically last between 30 and 60 days, and provide an opportunity for nuclear facilities to perform necessary maintenance that cannot be done while the plant is online.
