The Mayor of Humboldt is resigning. The Humboldt City Council accepted a letter of resignation from Mayor Jim McKim Tuesday evening. McKim, who was elected mayor in 2010, is resigning for health reasons. His resignation will be effective July 18th, following the next city council meeting on July 17th.
Council president Mike Riley will be elevated to the Mayor position and the council will appoint someone to fill Riley’s Ward 1 council seat.
In other business Tuesday night, the council met with representative from the Auditorium Board and Friends of the Auditorium about the building’s roof, which needs to be replaced. Following discussion, it was agreed that the Auditorium Board would get bids for a new roof.
And the council reviewed NPPD’s proposed rates for 2013. Residential rates will increase 4-to-6 percent and commercial rates will increase an average of 3.75-percent effective January 1st.
