A young Atchison man has pleaded not guilty to charges in connection with an officer assault case in Doniphan County.
19-year-old Antonio Clayter entered the plea Wednesday in Doniphan County District Court to seven felony counts---including aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer—and a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass.
A pre-trial conference was set for July 24th, during which time a jury trial is expected to be set.
Clayter is accused of assaulting Highland police officer Arthur Buckingham while he was attempting to arrest him on March 6th in a dorm room on the Highland Community College campus. Buckingham was hospitalized after suffering a fractured left shoulder.
The arraignment for co-defendant, 18-year-old Callie Percival of Pawnee City, Nebraska, was continued Wednesday to July 18th.
Percival is charged with a felony count of obstructing official duty and misdemeanor battery.
Another defendant in the case, 19-year-old Jonathan Ogletree of Atchison, pleaded no contest in April to an amended charge of obstructing official duty along with battery and criminal trespass.
Ogletree was given a suspended jail sentence and placed on 18-months supervised probation.
