Atchison County Commissioners passed a resolution Wednesday that set a cap on new solid waste fees that will be seen on citizen’s next property tax statement.
The cap is a 72 dollar flat rate per residence and 72 dollar per 26 cubic yards for non-residences.
For every unit thereafter, a 72 dollar charge will be added.
The policy mirrors a current policy in Harvey County.
County Commissioner Jeff Schuele says this fee only covers a portion of solid waste handling and recycling.

Schuele hopes other Commissioner action over the next few months may drive the rates down before the budget is finalized in late August.

Commissioners also heard a monthly progress report on the ADA elevator and women’s restroom project in the courthouse.
Schuele says the age of the building has played into delays for the project.

The new elevator is expected to arrive for installation at the end of August.
The estimated completion date is still the end of 2012, but with the setback, Schuele says the date may get pushed further back.
