A fire southwest of Nemaha, Nebraska Wednesday evening ended up with damage to a tractor, a shed and a fire truck. The good news is no injuries resulted from the fire or accident.
Nemaha Fire Chief Mike Hall said his department was called to the Jack Joy residence southwest of Nemaha about 6:30 p-m. A John Deere 4230 tractor in a shed on the Joy farm was covered with a tarp. Apparently an electrical spark caused the tractor to catch on fire. Before the tractor could be pulled from the shed, the fire spread to the shed and caused some damage before the fire was extinguished. Chief Hall estimated the damage to the shed and the tractor at $30,000.
The Brownville Fire Department also responded to the mutual aid call.
Chief Hall also noted that a Nemaha Fire Department tanker was damaged when the driver, Greg Cook of rural Brownville was turning the tanker into a private lane and the wheels went into a washout covered by grass that he did not see. Chief Hall said speed was not a factor in the accident and that Cook was wearing his seatbelt.
The tanker ended up on it’s top. Damage to the 2001 GMC truck and tank is estimated at $50,000. Chief Hall said the Nemaha Fire Department has replacement cost insurance on their equipment.
