The Pawnee City Council spent more time Monday evening discussing a potential assisted living facility.
The council met with members of a committee that’s been exploring the possibility building such a facility in Pawnee City. An assisted living facility has been identified as one of the community needs.
Discussion Monday centered on wording of a question to put on the November ballot asking if Pawnee City residents would be interested in supporting such a facility. No decision was made on wording of such a question.
The Pawnee City Council did approve the first reading of an ordinance to set up a Wellhead Protection Program, and the final reading of an ordinance to vacate a portion of K Street.
Approval was given to a motion to have Mid-America Road Builders chip-seal a few city streets. Most of the streets are located around the square. The contract amount approved was for $49,718.
In other business, Pawnee City will seek a 60-day extension from the Department of Economic Development to sort out what to do regarding its CDBG Reuse Funds. The D-E-D is asking cities to either return the funds, have the CDBG Reuse accounts audited, or request an extension.
Pawnee City has various CDBG Reuse funds totaling more than $600,000. The Nebraska Municipal League and Southeast Nebraska Development District had recommended the city ask for the 60-day extension.
Monday’s council meeting was the last for City Attorney Betsy Ferebee. She is resigning effective July 1st. The council approved a motion to appoint Joe Stehlik as City Attorney, and Jennifer Stehlik Ladman as Deputy City Attorney.
