Special honors for a late, local area sheriff, with a ceremony Wednesday morning to reveal a permanent remembrance of his legacy.
The Kansas Department of Transportation, at 10:00 Wednesday morning, will unveil the sign designating a portion of Nemaha County roadway in honor of David Mee, who served as Nemaha County Sheriff from 2001 until his death in 2006.
The 17-mile stretch of K-9 Highway is now known as “The David Mee Memorial Highway,” following approval by the Kansas Legislature of the bill introduced in January by State Representative Randy Garber, of Sabetha(Play Audio)
Mee also served the local area as a Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper for many years prior to his election as Sheriff.
Governor Sam Brownback signed the legislation into law in late March.
The Wednesday morning dedication ceremony will happen at the Corning Community Center at 6221 5th Street, in Corning.
Featured speakers include current Nemaha County Sheriff Rich Vernon, Reserve Deputy Russel Lierz, and Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Todd Helm.
Refreshments will be served.
