A pavement reconstruction project began today ( Monday ) on a 5.3-mile section of US-24 in Jefferson County from just west of the Muddy Creek bridge in Grantville to just east of the K-237 junction.
The Kansas Department of Transportation says the project includes removal and replacement of the pavement, shoulder work, and the addition of a right turn lane at Clark Road.
Work will take place during daylight hours Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work.
This week, eastbound and westbound US-24 traffic will have varying lane closures in preparation for the closure of the eastbound US-24 lanes on Monday, June 25.
Beginning on Monday, June 25, the eastbound lanes of US-24 will be closed and eastbound and westbound traffic will be carried on the westbound lanes (side by side) with one lane in each direction.
Drivers should expect minor delays during peak travel times.
Ideker, Inc. of St. Joseph, Missouri is the primary contractor on this pavement reconstruction project with a total contract cost of nearly $8.2 million.
The scheduled completion date for the pavement reconstruction project is early July, weather permitting.
