Despite the Sunday night rainfall, hot and dry weather is having an adverse affect on area crops. For the past several weeks forecasters have called for a chance of weekend rains but for the most part the timely rains have missed the area.
With corn starting to roll and wilt, we asked University of Missouri Regional Agronomist Wayne Flanary at the Holt County Extension Office for an update on the crops. ( play audio :24 seconds )
Flanary says that if we can catch some significant rainfall, it is not too late for the crops to produce. ( play audio :39 seconds )
With a mild winter and early spring, quite a few fields were planted early. Flanary commented on the affects that is having on crops. ( play audio :33 seconds )

Flanary is also suggesting farmers go ahead and spray for weeds rather than wait for them to get bigger. ( play audio :21 seconds )
