The Hiawatha City Commission has approved the closure of a driveway entrance and widening of two other driveways for a new auto parts store.
O’Reilly Automotive Stores Inc. plans to build a new store on property located on South 1st Street between the Maple Lanes Bowling Alley and Pederson Seed and Service.
The commission directed Mayor Crosby Gernon Monday evening to sign documents permitting the driveway work to take place.

Construction on the new auto parts store is expected to begin soon.
In other business, the commission approved the appointment of Larry Roeder, Tad Rankin and Damian Johnson to the city Planning Commission.
The commission also approved the appointment of Kristen Rosenberger to the Board of Zoning Appeals.
And the commission approved allowing residents to shoot off fireworks at the City Lake from 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 3rd until midnight on Wednesday, July 4th.
