Former Sabetha Police Chief Dennis Thompson has filed for Nemaha County Sheriff.
Thompson filed before the filing deadline Friday to challenge incumbent Sheriff Rich Vernon for the Republican nomination.
The winner of the Republican primary in August will face Democrat Tom Schleif of Corning. Schleif filed last week for the office.
Meanwhile, an additional candidate filed last week for the 3rd District Nemaha County Commission seat.
Dennis Henry of Seneca filed for the Democratic nomination.
He joins incumbent Mark Wessel, an independent, and Tom Kramer, a Republican, in seeking the position.
