People driving through northwest Missouri should expect occasional traffic delays this summer, as work gets underway to improve the condition of roads in Atchison and Holt County that were damaged in last year’s flood.
The Missouri Department of Transportation has awarded a contract of more than $3.6 million to APAC Kansas-Missouri to complete the work.
In Atchison County, a four-mile section of Highway 136 will be resurfaced from the Missouri River Bridge to G Avenue near Phelps City. The work will include improvements to the highway’s shoulders, with a new surface to be applied beginning August 2nd.
A thin lift overlay will be applied to more than nine miles on various other routes in Atchison County. Milling is scheduled to begin July 24th on Routes D, E, and U, followed by an overlay beginning on July 30th.
In Holt County, flood repairs continue on Route 111. The work will involve grading, paving, and a thin lift overlay from Craig to Route 118, and from Route 159 to south of Cannon Creek. Linear grading on Highway 111 is scheduled to begin July 9th and rock base and reclamation work is scheduled to begin August 22nd.
A thin lift overlay will be applied to more than 13 miles of roads in Holt County. Pavement repair is to begin June 21st on Highway 159, Route P, and Route 113, followed by an overlay. That work is expected to be finished around July 4th.
MoDOT officials say some lane closures may be necessary as the work is done, but the roads will not be shut down during construction and all lanes will be open during the Independence Day and Labor Day holidays. The work will be done this construction season, with completion set for November 1st.
