Medieval manuscripts and books from the special collections of Benedictine College, Mount Saint Scholastica Monastery and Conception Abbey, and St. John’s University are being featured at “Desire for the Medieval Past: Book Collecting in Midwestern Monastic Libraries.”
They will be on display at the Miller Nichols Library at UMKC from June 1 to June 30.
This event is being held within the context of an international conference, “Nun’s Literacies in Medieval Europe.”
Among those presenting at the conference will be Michael O’Hare, Professor Emeritus of Theology at Benedictine College, and Sister Judith Sutera, of Mount Saint Scholastica Monastery.
Dr. Virginia Blanton, Chair of the English Department at UMKC, has overseen the organization of the conference.
Dr. Blanton worked closely with Miriam O’Hare, Supervisor of Special Collections and Government Documents at the Benedictine College Library in choosing the materials for display.
