A formal invitation to join the Twin Valley League has been extended to Doniphan West and Troy schools following the end of the Delaware Valley League after the 2012-13 school year.
Principal of the Centralia schools, John Whetzal said "I extended a formal invitation to Troy and Doniphan West schools, they were formally of the Delaware Valley League. Upon their acceptance we we'll be adding two more 11-man schools to the mix. This will include all activities, as well."
According to Whetzal, the invitation was extended to the two schools because they are viewed as a good fit for the TVL.
"With their proximity to the eastern schools in our league and with the uncertainty of the future of some schools in our league. We felt it was in our best interest, as well as in their best interest to extend that invitation," said Whetzal.
Troy and Doniphan West are two of six schools (others are ACCHS, Horton, Riverside and KC Christian) in the current DVL searching for a new league affiliation after the other eight schools in the DVL decided to disband and form their own league at the end of the 2012-13 school year. Those eight schools to form their own league consist of: Jefferson County North, Oskaloosa, Valley Falls, McLouth, Jackson Heights, Pleasant Ridge, Immaculata and Maur-Hill Mount Academy.
While Troy and Doniphan West have been invited to join the TVL; ACCHS, Riverisde and Horton have requested to join the Big Seven League. The Big Seven League currently has eight teams in the league and will vote on whether to extend an invite to any or all the three schools on June 5th.
