Class B and C District track meets were held yesterday in Nebraska. Area schools competed in meets at Plattsmouth and Tecumseh.
In the Class B-2 meet at Plattsmouth, Syracuse won the girls’ team race, while Crete was the top boys team by a healthy margin.
The Syracuse girls totaled 117 points to edge Auburn for the team title. Auburn finished with 110.5 points, with Crete third with 90 points. Falls City placed 10th. The Crete boys won the meet with 124.6 points, with Plattsmouth second with 78.6 points. Auburn had 67.6 points for third place. Syracuse had 36 points for 7th place and Falls City finished 9th with 13.6 points.
Individually, Auburn’s Tierra Williams led Auburn, winning four events. The junior won the long jump, triple jump, 100-meter dash, and 200-meter dash. Auburn also got a first place finish from Amy Mann in the pole vault.
Syracuse was led by sophomores Haley and Emily Harsin, who each won two events. Haley Harsin won the 800-meter run and 1600-meter run, while Emily Harsin won the 100 and 300-meter hurdles. Syracuse also won both the 1600 and 3200-meter relays.
On the boys’ side of the meet, Auburn’s Thomas Hinrichs won both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles; Auburn’s Alex Gonsalves won the long jump and was third in the 100-meter dash.
Falls City got a pair of third place finishes, from Cord Huettner in the shot put and Zach Jordening in the high jump.
Area Class C schools competed in the District 2 meet at Tecumseh.
Lincoln Christina was the top girls team with 109 points, with Freeman second with 90 points, Lourdes Central was third, followed by Southern, Palmyra, Johnson County Central, Johnson-Brock, and HTRS.
Boys’ team standings had Freeman with the district title with 121.5 points. Lourdes Central was second with 72, JCC had 68 points for third place; followed by Palmyra, Johnson-Brock, HTRS, Southern, and Lincoln Christian.
Individually, the HTRS girls had two district champions. Liz Railsback won the pole vault, and Hannah Volker won the discus. Volker also placed second in the shot put. Southern’s Jeryn Creek won the long jump and 200-meter dash and was second in the 100-meter dash. Shelby Creek was second in the long jump. Courtney Eltiste of JCC was second in the pole vault, and JCC also got a runner-up finish from Lauren Klaasmeyer in the 1600-meter run and a third place finish from Hanna Borrenpohl in the 200-meter dash. Shawna Newman of Johnson-Brock was third in the 3200-meter run, and Johnson-Brock won the 3200-meter relay, with the team of Newman, Amzie Dunekacke, Nicole Carbajal, and Sarah Wenzl.
On the boys’ side, Johnson-Brock’s Kale Wolken won three events – the long jump, 100-meter dash, and 300-meter hurdles. Ben Railsback of HTRS won the pole vault; Jordan Murphy of Southern won the high jump; Scott Johnson of JCC won the 3200-meter run and was third in the 1600-meters; Zach Kaster of JCC won the 200-meter dash and was second in the 100-meter dash.
