May is Community Action Month, and Humboldt-based Southeast Nebraska Community Action is set to mark a milestone this week. SENCA, along with representatives of Nebraska Community Action and the Nebraska Energy Office, will mark the 300th home weatherization the agency has completed using federal stimulus funds. The 300th home weatherization will be completed this Thursday in Avoca, Nebraska.
To date, SENCA has received federal funding of more than $2.7 million through the Nebraska Energy Office. By the time the program closes out on October 31st, 365 homes in southeast Nebraska will have been weatherized.
Rick Adams is in charge of SENCA’s Home Weatherization program. He says weatherizing a home begins with an energy audit. (play audio :30)

SENCA serves a seven county area with its weatherization program – Cass, Sarpy, Otoe, Nemaha, Johnson, Richardson, and Pawnee. Adams says eligibility for the weatherization program is based on income. (play audio :29)
In addition to the stimulus funds, Adams says SENCA has received and extension with additional funds from the State Energy Office, as well as some Department of Energy and LiHEAP funds that will allow them to continue weatherizing homes into next spring.
SENCA is planning to celebrate its 300th home weatherization Thursday afternoon in Avoca. To find out more about SENCA’s weatherization program, call 402-862-2411, or visit the agency’s website, www.senca.org.
