A Nortonville farmer made it possible for a local FFA chapter to win funding as a result of the “America’s Farmers Grow Communities” contest.
Bill Niemann chose the Atchison County FFA to receive 25 hundred dollars from the Monsanto Fund.
“America’s Farmers Grow Communities” is part of a broad commitment by the Monsanto Fund to highlight the important contributions farmers make every day to our society by helping them grow their local communities.
Nearly 60,000 farmers participated in the second annual Grow Communities program, which is designed to benefit nonprofit groups such as ag youth, schools and other civic organizations.
They will present the check to the organization Tuesday evening at 7:30 at ACCHS in Effingham.
The Monsanto Fund plans to invest three point one million dollars spread across 1,245 eligible counties in 39 states.
Other regional winners include: Chuck and Jane Bebermeyer in Brown County, Russell and Pat Winsor for the Jefferson County 4-H Foundation, Pam Meng in Doniphan County for the Troy FFA, Steve and Diane Katherens for the Jackson County 4-H Council, Mel Theno for the Basehor Historical Museum Society, Debra Meyer for the Bern Community Support Foundation, and Mark Grier for the Easton Volunteer Fire Department in Buchanan County.
