A brief early morning cluster of thunderstorms left about one seventh of Westar Energy customers in Atchison County to lose their power Thursday morning.
According to Westar’s web site, up to 13 hundred 73 customers were without power at one time between approximately 5:45 and 7:20, when the web site reported no more customers without power.
Westar Media Representative Leonard Allen says the outage was believed to be storm related.
Several counties in the region were under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning in periods of time from 5:30 to 6:15.
Atchison Fire Crews responded to a call at 10th Street in Atchison with a report of arcing of power lines after reports of trees hitting a power pole, tripping fuses and causing sparks, but Atchison Fire Chief Mike McDermed says, arcing was not present when crews arrived it’s unknown if that incident caused the mass outage.
