The city of Hiawatha will be getting a new street sweeper.
The city commission Monday evening accepted the low bid from Key Equipment and Supply Company of Kansas City for the purchase of 2012 Elgin street sweeper at a cost of $166,700.
It was among three bids received.
City Administrator Lynne Ladner says the new machine will be financed over a five year period.
Public Works Director Dave Grimm said the current sweeper hasn’t been working for some time.
In other business, the commission voted to proceed with a project to upgrade the city’s tornado warning sirens to the narrow banding frequency.
Ladner said the FCC is requiring that all radios be upgraded to narrow banding for radio signals by January 1st, 2013.
Blue Valley Tele-Communications of Home, Ks will do the upgrade at an estimated cost of $11,205.
