Jackson Co Host Law Enforcement Training
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office hosted a training class for area law enforcement Tuesday and Wednesday .
The class was titled Advanced Vehicle Contraband Concealment Phase 1. The class was provided by the Midwest Counter Drug Training Center of Johnston, Iowa. MCTC is a federally funded training program through the Department of Defense that provides free law enforcement training to law enforcement officers across the Midwest. The training was made available to other area law enforcement agencies.
Fifty five officers attended the training. Some of the agencies that attended were: Wichita Police Dept., Topeka Police Dept., Nebraska City Police Dept., and Nemaha Co. Sheriff’s Office.
Kansas law enforcement officers are required to have at least 40 hours of continuing education to maintain their state certifications.
Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says providing continuing education to deputies is an important and mandatory expense. He says the Sheriff’s Office continues to seek affordable, but quality training for deputies. Morse says this particular training saved Jackson County over three thousand dollars. Over the last year, the Sheriff’s Office has benefited by receiving free training from MCTC on multiple occasions.
