Improvements will be made to Doniphan County’s Monument Road this summer in order to prevent the nearby Missouri River from crossing the road during a high water event.
The Doniphan County commission had previously agreed to build up the road, located south of Wathena, this year and then chip and seal the road next year.
However, Commissioner Wayne Grable pointed out at this week’s meeting that the repair work needs to be completed this year in order to receive FEMA funding for the project.
Grable said the 3rd District road crew will begin tearing out the soft spots and building up the roadway with base rock in order to chip seal this year.
