Richardson County Commissioners Meet

Richardson County Commissioners met with representatives of the Brown County Board of Commissioners Tuesday in regards to a bridge project on the state line.
    Brown County requested Richardson County pay for half of the engineering costs of the project which Richardson County had previously agreed to.  The project has been completed and Richardson County Commissioners approved payment of $9,910 to Brown County for their share of the engineering costs.
    Emergency Management Agency Director Jim Gerweck met with the Board to present plans to make improvements to a room in the lower level of the Richardson County Courthouse for use as a conference / meeting room.  Gerweck is to present final estimates for the improvements in the next few weeks.
    Sheriff Randy Houser presented a purchase order for the replacement of a patrol vehicle.  The Sheriff is requesting a patrol pickup be replaced with a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup.  No action was taken by Commissioners during the meeting.
    Sheriff Houser also reported the drug dog will be completing training within the week and requested some minor improvements be made to the parking lot.  He also requested the Board to consider increasing the rate allowed for meal reimbursement.  Sheriff Houser noted during his report that a small room in the jail facility will be transformed into a video visitation room for inmates.
    Tuesday afternoon Commissioners and the Sheriff toured the Brown County, Kansas Jail facility.
    Road and Bridge Department Union members met with Commissioners to finalize the 2011-13 union contract.  After review of the final proposal, it was agreed that a change would be made to an article concerning health insurance.  The change will be made and the agreement reviewed again next week.
