Kansas City Royals wrapped up their six-game road trip to start the 2012 MLB season off with a 3-3 record, taking two of three versus the LA Angels, while only winning one of three versus the Oakland Athletics. The final game of the road trip went extra innings with the Royals falling short in the game, as the A's won 5-4 in 12 innings, after Royals reliever, Jonathan Broxton hit Jonny Gomes to walk in the winning run for the A's in the bottom of the twelfth after hitting the previous batter to load the bases. Broxton gave up two walks to get the other two A's players on base.
The Oakland A’s took the early lead in the matchup but the Royals fought back with an RBI single by Alex Gordon and a solo home-run from Billy Butler, but the A’s
would regain the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run by the designated hitter, Jonny Gomes. Gordon later tied the game back up with a solo home-run for himself in the seventh.
Royals took the lead in the top half of the twelfth inning and were three outs away from taking home the win, when the A’s responded with two runs in the bottom half of the twelfth to take the win and two of three in the series against the Royals.
Gordon and Butler both had the best offensive day for the Royals each with two hits, two RBI’s and a home-run, apiece.
Kansas City opens up nine-game home stand Friday when the take on the Cleveland Indians at 3:10pm. They will play the Indians, Detroit Tigers and Toronto Bluejays in three-game series over the course of the nine-game home stand.
