Atchison Public Schools will decide on if they want to participate in a class action lawsuit regarding state aid.
They will decide in a special meeting at noon on Monday at the board of education office.
The suit involves all school districts that are expected to receive capital outlay equalization aid.
Documents provided at the 409 web site say the case list Luke Gannon as a Plaintiff and the State of Kansas as Defendants.
The lawsuit documents say the action seeks an order from the court ordering the state to pay the capital outlay state aid entitled to school districts.
The document further states that outlay was suspended for the 2010-11 and 11-12 fiscal years, and was allowed, but not paid in the 09-10 fiscal year.
Exhibit one of the document says Atchison Public Schools was entitled 107 thousand 562 dollars in 09-10 and 99 thousand 398 dollars.
Additionally, the document lists Hiawatha Public Schools to be allocated 18 thousand 542 dollars in 09-10 and 12 thousand 462 dollars in 10-11.
The Hiawatha School Board is also going to consider whether to join the class action suit during their meeting Monday.
Pleasant Ridge Schools near Easton were supposed to be allocated 36 thousand 408 in 10-11.
Representatives at USD 409 were unavailable for comment due to the Easter holiday break.
We will have more details as we receive them.
