Two-dozen Peru State College students have been inaugurated into the college’s new Rotaract Club. Rotaract was founded in 1968 as an extension of Rotary International.
It is described as one of Rotary’s most significant and fastest growing service programs for men and women between the ages of 18 and 30 years of age, with more than 8,400 clubs in 170 countries.
Among the 24 charter members of Peru State’s Rotaract Club are freshman Ryan Bauman of Falls City, senior Bailey deKoning of Burchard, junior J.D. Faxon of Odell, and senior Sarah Mathewson of Summerfield, Kansas.
Rotaract clubs can be either community or university based and are sponsored by a local Rotary club. Five area clubs are serving as sponsors for Peru State’s club – Auburn, Falls City, Humboldt, Nebraska City, and Pawnee City.
Clubs are involved in a variety of service projects each year – including tutoring children, collecting books, organizing campus outings for people with disabilities, and fundraising for various causes.
The Peru State Rotaract club has been involved with a variety of service initiatives already, including raising money for “Movember,” an initiative that raises funds and awareness of men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer.
