The No. 5 Nebraska women’s gymnastics team has earned the No. 1 seed at the NCAA Salt Lake City Regional. Monday, the NCAA announced the 36 teams participating in the 2012 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships. The regional, which will be hosted by second-seeded Utah, will take place at the Huntsman Center on Saturday, April 7 at 7 p.m. (CST).
Nebraska, who finished the regular season at 19-2 and captured the Big Ten Championship last weekend, will face No. 8 Utah, No. 16 Minnesota, No. 17 Missouri, Arizona State and San Jose State. The competition also features five all-around competitors and one individual specialist per event.
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors, who are not on an advancing team, will receive an automatic berth to the 2012 NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Georgia in Duluth, Ga., on April 20-22. In addition, the individual event winners will advance to the national championships if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.
