Shenanigans and littering out at the Lewis and Clark campsite northeast of Atchison has posed concerns for citizens and an organization in the county.
Atchison County Commissioners heard from a citizen and Chris Taylor of the Atchison County Historical Society at their regular Wednesday meeting about activity at Independence Creek.
They reported that there were shell casings from ammunition as well as trash and litter.
County Commissioner Jeff Schuele says they plan to work with the historical society, who owns the property to keep the area clean and safe.

This discussion brought up another related topic within the county: the lack of a public shooting range.
Currently, there is one out near the transfer station only open for law enforcement and concealed carry classes.
Schuele says there have been several requests by citizens to look into a public range.

In other business, commissioners will need to repair a garage door out at the county shop following a non-injury accident with equipment that estimates to cost around 15 hundred dollars.
