Local District Judge Files for Re-election
03/22/2012

A local district judge has filed for re-election.
22nd Judicial District Judge John Weingart of Hiawatha, who is completing his 12th year on the bench, has filed for a fourth term.  The 22nd Judicial District includes Brown, Doniphan, Nemaha and Marshall Counties.
Weingart says he is running for re-election because he hopes to continue to provide good service to the people.  He said good service includes not wasting jury members’ time and ensuring they are thanked, and it means to continue to be a good steward of the public’s money that goes into the court system.  He said the office has been coming in under-budget.
Weingart grew up Denton and graduated from Midway High School in 1970.  Weingart graduated from Washburn University in 1974 and earned a law degree from Washburn in 1977.
Weingart began practicing law in Hiawatha in 1997, and then was elected district judge in 2001.
Weingart is a member of the American Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association, and the Northeast Kansas Bar Association.
His wife, Nancy, is a substitute teacher.  They have four daughters.
