A former official with the Doniphan County Community of Elwood is facing charges.
Former deputy city clerk and municipal court clerk Leanna Bell has been charged in Doniphan County District Court with four felony counts—official misconduct, making false information, misuse of public funds and theft.
The Kansas Chief reports the 39-year-old Bell was arrested last Friday.
According to court documents, the alleged offenses took place between January 1st, 2009 and December 31st, 2010.
Bell was a city employee from April 1994 through December 2010.
Nemaha County Attorney Brad Lippert has been appointed a special prosecutor in the case. Lippert wasn’t immediately available for comment as he was tied up in court.
Bell’s preliminary hearing was continued today ( Thursday) in Doniphan County Court. A new date hasn’t been set.
Bell is currently free on $50,000 bond.
