Renowned consumer advocate and former Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader will speak at Peru State College. Nader’s presentation is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 26th, in the College Theatre as part of the college’s Distinguished Speaker Series.
Ralph Nader was honored by Time magazine as “One of the 100 Most Influential Americans of the 20th Century,” and recently as “One of the 100 Most Influential Figures in American History” by The Atlantic. His first foray into public life came in 1965 when he took on the automobile industry in the book “Unsafe at Any Speed.”
He has formed several citizen groups, including the Center for Auto Safety, Public Citizen, the Pension Rights Center, the National Coalition for Universities in the public Interest, and the student Public Interest Research Groups that operate in over 20 states. He is also the author of several best-selling books.
Nader replaces Anthony Shadid, the New York Times Beirut Bureau Chief and two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning author, who passed away suddenly while on assignment in Syria, on Peru State College’s Distinguished Speaker schedule. Nader is a close friend of the Shadid family and will share some stories about Anthony Shadid during his presentation, titled “Social Justice and World Affairs.”
The March 26th presentation is free and open to the public.
