Nebraska High School District Wrestling Tournaments were held over the weekend.
In Class B, District 1, Syracuse turned in a dominating performance, winning the team title with 235-and-a-half points, with Plattsmouth second with 155 points. Nebraska City was third in the team standings, Auburn had 43-and-a-half points for 9th place and Falls City totaled 38 points, good for an 11th place team finish.
Individually, both Falls City and Auburn qualified two wrestlers for the State Tournament. For the Tigers, senior Cole Ackerman is the district champion at 182-pounds. Ackerman won the championship match Saturday with a 10-4 decision over Avery Stevenson of Syracuse. Ackerman will take a 27-4 record into the State Tournament. Also for Falls City, senior Tate Hayes qualified for state with a 4th place finish at 126-pounds. Hayes lost a 2-0 decision to Taylon Lindemann of Norris in the 3rd place match.
For Auburn, Calvin Bishop finished 3rd at 138 pounds, and Alec Dunn finished 3rd at 220 pounds.
Syracuse qualified wrestlers for state in 13 of 14 weight divisions. Nebraska City had eight qualifiers.
In Class C, area teams competed in the District at Malcolm. Wilber-Clatonia was the team champion. HTRS/Pawnee City was 11th in the team standings with 61 points; Johnson County Central had 15 points for 13th place, and Southern was 15th in the team standings.
Individually, the Titans had two state qualifiers – both advancing as district champions. Senior Lucas Snethen won the District Title at 195 pounds, winning the title bout by pinning James Burruss of Malcolm in 1:27. Senior T.J. Standerford won the title at 220 pounds, winning the title bout by injury default over Carson Homolka of Wilber-Clatonia.
In Class D, Freeman won its district title with 125 points. Six Falcons qualified for the state tournament, including one district champion. Chandler Brandert won the title at 152 pounds with a 10-3 decision over Riley Noel of Meridian.
The Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament begins Thursday at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha.
