46 year old Scott Bek of Falls City was arrested by Richardson County Sheriff Randy Houser following a two vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon on Highway 8 on the viaduct just west of Falls City.
Shortly after 5 p-m Tuesday a traffic accident was reported to the Sheriff’s Department. Linda Kratz told the Sheriff that she was westbound on Highway 8 when she saw Bek’s oncoming vehicle cross the centerline into her lane. She said Bek was looking down toward the floor of the passenger compartment as he crossed the centerline and that she swerved into the opposite lane to avoid the collision but Bek swerved drastically back toward his proper lane of travel colliding with her vehicle.
According to the Probable Cause Affidavit, Sheriff Houser said he discovered a plastic cup in the drivers console of the Bek vehicle that smelled of alcohol. Sheriff Houser conducted an interview with Bek at Community Medical Center. A preliminary Breath Test for alcohol showed a preliminary reading of .272, which is more than three times the legal limit of .08.
Bek is facing possible charges of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs second offense; Open Alcoholic Beverage Container; No Proof of Insurance and False Reporting.
