Penny Hargrove looks forward to taking over as the new superintendent of the Hiawatha School District in July.
During a special meeting Thursday evening, the Hiawatha School Board voted to hire Hargrove, who has served as the assistant superintendent of schools at Valley Center the past four years, to replace longtime Superintendent John Severin who is retiring at the end of the current school year...( play audio )

Prior to becoming assistant superintendent at Valley Center, Hargrove was a building principal for three years with the Clay Center School District and at Valley Center. For the first ten years of her career, she was a middle school science teacher.
Hargrove was among four candidates interviewed this month by the Hiawatha School Board for the superintendent’s position.
Hargrove was offered a two-year contract at an annual salary of $106,000.
She will begin her duties with the Hiawatha school district on July 2nd.
