Atchison County paramedics made a few more ambulance runs in 2011 than the previous year. Bob Harmon with the Atchison hospital met with County Commissioners today (Wednesday), reporting 15 hundred 17 calls, up from 15 hundred 40 in 2010. Of those calls, transports were up this year at 11 hundred 46, compared to a thousand 70 in the prior year. Mutual aid calls were down by 11 to 26 calls this year over to Buchanan County, largely due to inaccessibility caused by Missouri River flooding. The Atchison County EMS is responsible for calls east of Lancaster, however, they were called out to 31 calls west of those parameters in 2011. Harmon said the biggest part of calls in 2011 were within Atchison city limits with around 10 percent of those not in town.
