MDC offers free fly tying class

Trout or smallmouth bass will strike angler-tied flies in Ozark streams. Bluegill and largemouth bass find them tempting in farm ponds. Tying flies matches craft skills with aquatic lore to create fishing lures that will be swished to the water via a fly rod to tempt fish. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free flying tying workshop on Saturday, March 9, at the Burr Oak Woods Nature Center, 1401 N.W. Park Road, in Blue Springs.

The workshop will be offered in two sessions, from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m.

Participants will learn about terminology, equipment, materials, and types of flies. This will be a hands-on class during which instructors will help participants tie their own flies. All equipment and materials will be provided. This workshop is open to ages 12 and older. Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
