The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites teachers interested in starting archery programs in their schools to attend a Basic Archery Instructor course. Part of MDC’s Missouri National Archery in the Schools Program (MoNASP), the class will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.at Sweet Springs High School, 600 E. Marshall St., in Sweet Springs.
MDC offers free MoNASP teacher training and equipment grants to help launch in-school archery programs across the state. MoNASP helps build confident, strong, and accomplished kids, improving their self-reliance skills and knowledge about wildlife conservation.
MoNASP supports international-style target archery in grades 4-12 within physical education classes during the school day. Statistics show that school archery programs improve school attendance, increase confidence, improve behavior, increase physical activity, and appeal to all students.
“Archery is a great way to enjoy Missouri’s outdoors,” said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Brian Flowers. “A basic understanding of equipment and technique can open up many opportunities to get out and discover nature.”
