The 2017 recipient of the Elmer F. Heiman Scholarship is Corey Heiman, the son of Brent and Jenny Heiman of Baileyville. Corey, a graduate of Nemaha Central High School will attend Kansas University in the fall with the intent of majoring in Accounting and Finance. He wrote in his application that becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) would be a career he would enjoy.
In his application, Corey stated his love for crunching numbers and working with people along with the variety of job opportunities available, is what led him into the CPA career path. He hopes one day return to Nemaha County after obtaining his Master’s degree and passing the CPA exam to raise a family.
This scholarship was established in 2008 by Aurelia Heiman and her family in memory of Elmer F. Heiman. Elmer was a member of the first graduating class at Baileyville High School. After high school, he was drafted into the army and then later returned home to work at Baileyville State Bank. The Elmer F. Heiman Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, is awarded to a graduating senior from Nemaha Central High School who is a former B & B High School student. It is with great pleasure that the STEP Foundation is able to assist Mr. Heiman’s family to leave a lasting “footprint” that will carry on his name and memory.
