The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC), the agency that regulates motor carriers in the state, has launched the first phase of a new online tool designed to help Kansas motor carriers meet regulatory requirements and successfully manage their businesses.
KTRAN, which stands for the Kansas Trucking Regulatory Assistance Network, is a web based motor carrier regulatory system offering benefits to both public and regulatory users. The network is funded by a grant from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
The Compliance Wizard is the first KTRAN module to go live. Using the wizard, motor carriers answer a series of questions about their business and within seconds a custom checklist of laws that apply to their operation such as state and federal rules, regulations and costs is displayed.
“The KTRAN wizard is especially valuable to motor carriers just starting their businesses. It can be confusing to determine what authorities are needed and which regulations apply to different types and sizes of operations. The wizard takes the guess work out and helps motor carriers and businesses operating commercial vehicles get off to good start,” said Mike Hoeme, Director of Transportation at the KCC.
When the full version of KTRAN goes live later this spring, motor carriers will be able set up a personal account with an interactive dashboard to receive alerts and announcements as well as communicate with KCC staff. They can also easily submit electronic applications, renew registrations and pay fees through the site.
State and federal regulatory agencies as well as law enforcement also benefit from KTAN. It provides one stop access to databases used in compliance and roadside enforcement.
The KTRAN wizard can be accessed from the KCC website at http://kcc.ks.gov/ktran
