(KMZA)--A local community receives state recognition.
That comes as Marysville Convention and Tourism is honored with the People's Choice award, given as part of a number of awards presented by Kansas tourism professionals during the 2016 Kansas Tourism Conference awards banquet held recently in Olathe.
According to a press release from the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism, Marysville's recognition was based on its first annual Light Up Marysville Christmas lighting contest, which was held as part of an integrated marketing campaign.
More than 50 local residences and businesses took part in the lighting.
The top award, presented by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, was presented to United States Senator Jerry Moran. The Kansas Republican was honored with the Governor's Tourism award due to what the press release calls Moran's long time support of the Kansas tourism industry, noting that he served as the first chair of the Governor's Tourism Council, “leading the way for recognition of tourism's role in the economic vitality” of the state.
