(KNZA)--Another area school district, in response to a board member offering a political endorsement, is working to clarify that the statement is not representative of the school board on a whole.
That comes as the voice of USD 415 board member John Wright is heard in a broadcast political advertisement on behalf of the Dennis Pyle for Kansas Senate Campaign.
Hiawatha School District Superintendent Penny Hargrove Thursday issued a statement on behalf of USD 415 School Board President Dr. Pete Rosa, regarding the matter. “As representatives of USD 415, our Board of Education President, Dr. Pete Rosa, would like the community to know that Mr. Wright's endorsement of Mr. Pyle is his, and his personally,” Hargrove tells MSC News. “The Board as a whole does not support, or endorse, candidates. They are a non-partisan board.”
The endorsements offered in the political advertisements by other area school board members have drawn scrutiny in recent weeks.
Last Friday, the Board of Education for USD 337 held a special meeting focused solely on the issue.
That followed endorsements for the Pyle campaign made by two members of the Royal Valley school board.
Superintendent Aaric Davis, following the meeting, said the school board passed a resolution stating that the two individual members, and not the board as a whole, were offering the endorsements.
