(KNZA)--The Brown County Historical Society is preparing for the sale of a county-owned building in downtown Hiawatha used the organization.
Historical Society Director Eric Thompson and Historical Society board member Larry Day met with the Brown County Commission Monday to discuss the sale of the building at 518 Oregon which currently houses Jack’s Trains.
The Commission has set a public auction for November 7 for the building.
Thompson says he has developed a six-week plan to get the train display and other items housed in the building moved to a temporary location until a permanent building can be constructed at their Ag Museum site on East Iowa Street.
At the request of Thompson, the Commission agreed to set the date of possession for the new owners of the building, if its sold, for January 1st, 2017.
Proceed from the sale of the building will go to the Historical Society.
